The Ghana Police Service has interdicted 21 personnel in connection with the shooting of seven Zongo youth at Manso Nkwanta.
The interdiction follows a fact-finding committee’s report which found that the seven individuals who were shot were not armed robbers as claimed by the police officers who did the shooting.

A statement signed by the Ministry of Information and signed by the sector minister, Kodjo Oppong Nkrumah, said: “There were no facts before the committee to establish that the deceased persons were armed robbers who engaged in an exchange of fire with the Police”.
The statement added: “the twenty-one (21) police personnel involved in the incident who have been found to be the principal suspects be interdicted by the Police administration.”
There will also “be subjected to formal police criminal investigation into the matter,” the state has promised.
The government set up a five-member fact-finding committee, headed by a Justice of the High Court, Justice Obeng Diawuo, to look into the killings.

Prior to the setting up of the committee, some Zongo youth have violently protested claims by the police that the seven persons who were shot to death were armed robbers.
However, Government has assured the general public that due process will be followed in the pursuit of justice and called for continued calm and patience, pending a conclusive determination of the matter.
