Police in Kpandai in the Kpandai District of the Northern Region have arrested a 24-year-old man, Mensah Lare, for alleged illegal possession and attempted sale of weapon on Wednesday.
The district police commander, DSP Francis Akwasi Asante, told Adom News that police had information that someone was offering a rifle for sale in Buya near Kpandai.

The suspect was traveling to Kpandai in search of a buyer because a prospective buyer at Buya in the same district had declined to buy the rifle.
DSP Francis said police men were dispatched to search all motor bikes that entered the town because intelligence indicated that the suspect was on a motorbike
Suspect Mensah Lare appeared with an unregistered motor bike and a search on him revealed a fertilizer bag containing an AK 47 rifle with the number, 2110 with barrel number, 202.

The rifle contained no ammunition in the magazine.
Police investigations revealed that one Yaw, a native of Balai, a village in the Kpandai District sent the suspect to find a prospective buyer at Buya but realizing that the buyer no longer showed interest, he decided to proceed to Kpandai.
The police commander added that on the back of the suspect’s revelation that Yaw was an accomplice, police proceeded to Balai but he was nowhere to be found.
He said the suspect, Mensah Lare, was in Kpandai Police custody as investigations continue.
