A driver’s mate, Cephas Okine, also known as Shatta, has been sentenced to four years in prison by an Accra Circuit Court for stealing a ram valued at GH₵5,000.
Okine was charged with unlawful entry and stealing after taking the ram, which the complainant had purchased for an upcoming programme.
He pleaded guilty before the court, presided over by Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah, and was convicted on his own plea.
Prosecutor Inspector Shiela Tetteh informed the court that Okine had a history of theft and had previously been ordered by a Teshie court to sign a bond of good behavior for two years on November 19, 2024. However, he breached the bond within three months, leading to his sentencing.
According to the prosecution, the complainant, Richard Thompson, an IT engineer residing at Teshie in Accra, discovered the theft on February 16, 2025.
Between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m., Okine unlawfully entered Thompson’s gated compound at Teshie Nungua Estate and stole the ram.
His luck ran out when some residents spotted him dragging the animal away. They confronted him, conducted a search, and found a pair of scissors in his possession.
Okine was handed over to the police, where he admitted to the crime during interrogation.
The court sentenced him to four years in prison to serve as a deterrent to others.
