A 38-year old man, Ahianu Bruno, from Kasoa died when a Mercedes Benz Sprinter Bus veered off its lane unto the shoulders of the road and knocked him down at Gyeteykrom on Winneba Kasoa Highway.
Superintendent Charles Obiri-Yeboah, Winneba District MTTD Commander said although they have not found his relatives, the identification was through his ID card found on him.
He told the GNA in an interview that his office received a telephone call last Thursday at about 1900 hours that there was an accident at Gyetekrom Junction and quickly rushed to the scene and found the deceased on the shoulders of the road.
He said the bus with registration number GX 300-16, which was from Winneba Junction heading towards Gomoa Mampong landed on the railing of a bridge nearby and was also seen with the driver, Kweku Acquah aged 45, injured.
He said the driver was rushed to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital, Winneba for treatment, while the body of the deceased was deposited at the hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
The Commander said when Acquah was interrogated, he alleged that a vehicle crossed his way at Gyetekrom junction and in an attempt to swerve, lost control of the steering wheel and knocked down the victim and later hit the bridge.
Supt Obiri-Yeboah cautioned drivers to be extra careful and watchful particularly when Christmas was just around the corner to avoid preventable accidents, Supt. Obiri-Yeboah added.
