“My Lord I met the girl eight months ago and had sex with her, but I am surprised I have been arrested in 2018 and brought to court,” questioned the accused in an Accra Circuit Court.

Shamasu Sally, 38, pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement of a child under 16 and was sentenced to seven years imprisonment by the court presided over by Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku.

“I beg for mercy your honour,” Sally pleaded after he was convicted by the court.

When Sally was asked if he had anything to say he told the court he only had sex with the girl once in December 2017.

“I like your honesty and the fact that you did not waste the time of the court,” Mrs Abena told Sally when convicting him.

The facts as presented by the prosecutor, Mr Kofi Atimbre were that in June this year, the girl after the close of school went looking for a friend but met Sally in the house.

Mr Atimbre said Sally lured the victim into his room, had sex with her and gave her Ghc 5.00.

On July 28, 2018, Sally met with the girl and had sex with her again.

At dawn, the girl’s mother noticed that her daughter’s private part was swollen and after questioning her, the girl told her mum that Sally, the porter, had sex with her.

Mr Attimbre told the court that the girl’s mother took her to the Nima Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit (DOVVSU) and lodged a complaint.

She was then given a police medical form to seek medical care for her daughter.

Sally was later arrested and charged before the court.
