Man, 23, jailed for GWCL meter theft; another on the run for illegal reconnection

-

The Mampong Magistrate court in the Ashanti Region has sentenced 23-year-old Sumaila Abdul Rahman to 12 months in prison for stealing Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) meters.

Abdul Rahman was arraigned on October 14, 2024, four days after his arrest.

State prosecutor, Chief Inspector Richard Obeng Asare presented the prosecution case leading to his swift sentencing.

In a statement, GWCL management commended the judicial service for its swift action and emphasised the importance of compliance with utility regulations to safeguard community resources.

The statement added that one Priscilla Amofa is also in custody at the Kumasi Central Police Station for illegally reconnecting water services, while her accomplice, Nana Adu, remains at large.

These incidents have raised alarms about the integrity of water supply systems in the Ashanti Region.

Residents in the Ashanti Region have therefore been encouraged to report suspicious activities related to water theft as part of ongoing efforts to maintain essential services.
