Malik Jabir named new Asante Kotoko technical director

Ghana Premier League side Asante Kotoko has appointed club legend Malik Jabir as their new technical director, succeeding James Kwesi Appiah.

The announcement, made on Wednesday, follows changes within the club’s leadership structure. Earlier this week, Prosper Narteh Ogum, the team’s head coach, was removed from the Interim Management Committee (IMC).

Jabir, a two-time CAF Champions League winner with Asante Kotoko, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Despite stepping down as technical director, Kwesi Appiah will remain actively involved with the club as a member of the IMC.

In a statement, the Porcupine Warriors expressed their enthusiasm for Jabir’s return to the team in a key leadership capacity.

“We are thrilled to announce the appointment of club legend and two-time CAF Champions League winner Malik Jabir as the new technical director for the club,” the club said in a statement.

“Coach James Kwesi Appiah, who recently held the position, will remain as a member of the club’s management team. Welcome, Malik.”

Jabir’s primary responsibilities will include offering technical guidance to the team and supporting head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum.

Kwesi Appiah, who served as technical director since August 2023, played a pivotal role in the club’s technical operations and player recruitment strategy. His tenure also saw him recommend several Sudanese players to strengthen the squad.

In addition to his involvement with Asante Kotoko, Appiah continues to serve as head coach of the Sudan national team, balancing both roles effectively.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko returned to form with a 2-0 victory over Aduana Stars on Matchday 12, snapping a streak of five consecutive defeats.
