General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the decision by former president John Mahama to stage a comeback in the 2020 election is not surprising.
John Boadu believes John Mahama will still lose the 2020 general elections even if he wins his party’s primaries to be flagbearer.
“We are not waiting for the NDC and Mahama to deliver. Why should we be scared of Mahama’s comeback? After all, we knew he would contest but it’s important to note that he (Mahama) cannot come close to us in 2020 even if he manages to win the primaries,” he said on Accra based Okay FM monitored by Adomonline.com.

Mr Mahama has officially declared his intention to contest in the party’s presidential primaries.
This is despite the fact that he led the party to one of its worse election performances in 2016 while an incumbent president.
Mahama’s decision, although anticipated, has left some party supporters surprised as they believe Mahama needed not after the humiliating defeat.

Others have however declared their support for John Mahama and welcomed his decision, indicating that he is the best among the about 11 flagbearer hopefuls to make a significant impression and possibly claim victory in the 2020 elections.
But John Boadu said the NPP is focused on delivering on its mandate and is certain that Mahama’s decision will not affect its chances of winning the upcoming election.
