Former President John Dramani Mahama has called on the Black Stars to focus on securing a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stressing that representing Ghana on the global stage is a cause worth fighting for.
Speaking to the team during a visit to the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, Mahama encouraged the players to give their maximum effort and make the nation proud.
“Playing for the national team is not as lucrative as your clubs but still, that sense of pride and patriotism that your nation has gone to the World Cup is worth dying for,” he said.
He also emphasized the importance of discipline, hard work, and unity, highlighting these as key values necessary for success both on and off the pitch.
The Black Stars squad, along with the coaching staff and officials, expressed their gratitude for Mahama’s support and words of encouragement.
Ghana is set to face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, before traveling to Morocco for a crucial encounter against Madagascar on Monday, March 24, as part of the Matchday five and six fixtures in the World Cup qualifiers.
Following their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 20 years, the Black Stars are determined to make amends by securing a place at the prestigious global tournament.
