Mahama urges Black Stars to replicate club performance on national stage

President John Mahama has called on Black Stars players to replicate the same level of performance they display at their clubs when representing Ghana on the international stage.

The national team has come under heavy criticism following their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking their first absence from the tournament in two decades.

During a visit to the team on Wednesday, Mahama challenged the players to bring the same passion and commitment they exhibit in club football to national duty.

“It takes sacrifice, it takes strength. We all enjoy watching you play for your clubs, and we expect you to bring that same dedication to the national team,” Mahama said.

He also underscored the significance of discipline, hard work, and unity, stressing that these qualities are essential for success at the highest level.

The Black Stars will look to bounce back when they face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, before heading to Morocco to take on Madagascar on Monday, March 24, in their Matchday five and six qualifiers.

With AFCON hopes dashed, Ghana is now focused on redeeming itself by securing a place at the next FIFA World Cup.
