Mahama sends important message to religious leaders over economic crisis

-

Former President John Dramani Mahama has called upon religious leaders to intensify their prayers for Ghana to overcome its current economic challenges and ensure peace before, during, and after the December polls.

Speaking to a gathered crowd in Wa during the episcopal ordination and installation of the Catholic Bishop of Wa, Most Rev Francis Bomansaan, Mahama said Ghana’s status as an oasis of peace in the sub-region is not merely coincidental but a result of God’s abundant mercy.

He urged religious bodies to continue offering intercessory prayers to maintain Ghana’s reputation as a peaceful nation amidst the turbulence of sub-Saharan Africa.

Mahama also urged the church to uphold its role as an unwavering moral voice in Ghanaian society.

As the flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), he reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring peace during the upcoming 2024 election season and called on President and the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to do the same.

“As a leader of a major political grouping in Ghana, the NDC, I wish to assure you all that my comrades and I will work with the church to ensure total peace and progress of our country. I hope that our president and members of his party will make a similar commitment to work with us all for a successful election and a peaceful nation,” he stated.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu who represented the President charged Ghanaians to embrace the values of tolerance and reject all forms of violence and intimidation as the country gears up for the 2024 general elections.

He assured of the government’s commitment to supporting the church in its mission to promote peace, justice and the well-being of all citizens.

Pope Francis appointed Most Rev. Fr. Bomansaan as bishop on 22nd May 2024 to lead the Wa Diocese after the demise of Cardinal Richard Kuuia Baawobr, M.Afr on 27th November 2022.

He is the 5th Bishop of the Wa Diocese with vast experience in the Catholic Church.
