President John Mahama has promoted new leadership for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), effective March 24, 2025.
The promotions were made on the advice of the Armed Forces Council ahead of the official transition from the outgoing military leadership.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, following the swearing-in of the Council.
The promoted officers include:
Brigadier General William Agyapong – promoted to Major General, appointed Chief of Defence Staff
Brigadier General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu – promoted to Major General, appointed Chief of Army Staff
Commodore Godwin Livinus Blessing – promoted to Rear Admiral, appointed Chief of Naval Staff
Air Commodore Eric Agyen-Frempong – promoted to Air Vice Marshal, appointed Chief of Air Staff
Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai – appointed Chief of Staff
In the statement, President Mahama, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expressed confidence in the new military leadership.
He urged them to serve with patriotism, unity, and courage in protecting Ghana’s security and sovereignty.
