The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to establish public universities in Ghana’s newly created regions if his party wins the 2024 elections.
Addressing chiefs and supporters at Nkatieso in the Juaboso Constituency of the Western North Region on November 14, Mahama underscored the importance of ensuring equal access to higher education nationwide.
He stressed that every region in Ghana should have at least one public university, describing the initiative as a step toward bridging educational disparities across the country.
“Our manifesto commits to ensuring that every region has a public university. For instance, under our previous tenure, we addressed gaps by establishing the University of Allied Health Sciences in the Volta Region and the University of Environment and Sustainable Development in the Eastern Region,” he noted.
“To our traditional leaders, we appreciate your efforts in reserving lands for tertiary institutions in your regions. Once we are in power, we will rely on these lands to bring development closer to you through new universities,” he added.
