Mahama orders probe into National Service ghost names scandal

-

President John Dramani Mahama has directed the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) to probe the operations of the National Service Authority following the discovery of 81,885 suspected ghost names on its payroll.

The irregularities were uncovered during a headcount of active National Service personnel, conducted by the Ministry of Finance as part of efforts to clear allowance arrears dating back to August 2024.

After the verification, GH₵226,019,224 was released to cover payments for 98,145 personnel, significantly lower than the 180,030 names initially submitted by the Authority’s previous management.

In response, President Mahama has instructed the new leadership of the Authority to implement urgent reforms to prevent a recurrence of such fraudulent activities.
