The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has joined the nation in mourning the loss of Herman Kojo Chinery-Hesse.
The distinguished tech entrepreneur passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024, due to cardiac arrest.
Known as “the Bill Gates of Africa,” Mr Chinery-Hesse was a pioneering figure in the tech industry and left a lasting impact on Ghana’s technological landscape.
Born in 1963 in Dublin, Ireland, he founded theSOFTtribe in 1991, which became Ghana’s oldest and largest software company.
Under Chinery-Hesse’s visionary leadership, theSOFTtribe introduced groundbreaking innovations that significantly advanced Ghana’s digital transformation.
His contributions have left a profound mark on the country’s tech sector.
In a social media post on X, Mahama paid tribute to Mr. Chinery-Hesse, acknowledging his substantial influence in the tech industry.
“We’ve lost a great man and a dear friend. This is a tremendous loss for Ghana and our IT community. May we be inspired to create many more like Herman. Rest in peace, Herman,” Mahama remarked.
