President-elect John Dramani Mahama has paid a courtesy visit to Kenyan President William Ruto to deliberate on regional integration, continental security, and ways to enhance collaboration between Ghana and Kenya.
During their meeting, Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to advancing trade within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), building on his experience as a former Chair of the AU High-Level Committee on Trade.
Mahama expressed gratitude for President Ruto’s enduring support and extended an invitation to his inauguration on January 7, 2025.
In a Facebook post following their meeting on Sunday, December 29, Mahama stated, “It was a great opportunity to discuss our regional integration efforts, continental security, and how we can work collectively to upscale the benefits of the AfCFTA. We shall strengthen relations between Kenya and Ghana.”
President Ruto, for his part, pledged to deepen Kenya-Ghana ties through expanded cooperation in sectors such as trade, investment, agriculture, mining, tourism, and oil and gas.
He emphasized that this partnership would create opportunities and drive mutual prosperity for citizens of both nations.
Additionally, President Ruto expressed gratitude to Mahama for his endorsement of Hon. Raila Odinga’s candidacy for Chairperson of the African Union Commission.
He also confirmed his attendance at Mahama’s swearing-in ceremony in January.
