President John Mahama has urged persons in leadership position to be conscious of decisions they take in order not to inflict dire consequences on individual lives.
According to him, the decision by the erstwhile NPP government to introduce the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme(DDEP) affected pensions, provident funds and other investments.
Reading a tribute at the funeral of the late Nana Dr. Agyekum Addo, CEO of KAMA Group of Companies, he linked his passing to the consequences of the DDEP.
The final funeral rites Nana Agyekum, who was the Unity Chief of New Juaben Traditional area took place at Koforidua-Suhyen in the Eastern region.

Mahama in his tribute described Nana Dr. Agyekum Addo as a distinguished son of Ghana whose entrepreneurial excellence and services to the nation were unparalleled.
He highlighted his visionary leadership at the Ghana investment Promotion Centre GIPC, where he championed policies that strengthen local businesses and attracted foreign investment.

The president encouraged the bereaved family to be proud of their his achievements.
In attendance were President Mahama, Chief of Staff, Julius Debra, the Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Awatey, CEO of Jospong Group of Companies, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, top officials of the Church of Pentecost, members from the Ghana Pharmaceutical Society, Chiefs, friends and family members.
The Late Nana Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo a distinguished entrepreneur, pharmacist, philanthropist, author and traditional leader was born in Suhyen, a town near Koforidua in the Eastern region.
He rose to become a pivotal figure in Ghana’s Pharmaceutical industry and a revered chief.
He faced early hardships in life that shaped his resilient character.
After his mother became bedridden when he was six, he assumed the responsibility of supporting his two siblings by taking over her vegetable trading activities.
Despite these challenges, he pursued his secondary education at Ghana Senior High School at Koforidua-Effiduase with a support of a benefactor.
He later enrolled at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy, followed by a Master’s degree in industrial management.
His commitment to lifelong learning culminated in a doctorate degree in marketing and entrepreneurship from the University of Ghana in 2022.
He was married to Mrs. Ernestina Juaben Serwah Addo with whom she had nine children.
In her tribute, his wife, Ernestina Juaben Serwah Addo described him as a caring and loving husband.

Nana Dr. Agyekum Addo died on November 1, 2024, after a short illness.
