President John Mahama has assented to amended bills that abolish the betting tax, E-Levy, emissions tax, and other levies.
This follows Parliament’s official repeal on March 26, 2025, after Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson presented the Legislative Instrument (LI) for amendment. Parliament adopted the measure after it matured.
The signing on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, fulfills one of Mahama’s major campaign promises and aims to reduce the financial burden on Ghanaians while boosting economic growth.
The repeal of the E-Levy, introduced in 2022 under the previous New Patriotic Party administration, has been widely welcomed.
The tax imposed a 1.5% charge on electronic transactions, including mobile money and bank transfers.
