President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko as the Acting Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), marking a historic first for the Authority, as the position is being filled from within its ranks.
The NCA confirmed the appointment on 23 January 2025 via its official website.
Rev. Ing. Fianko, an accomplished electronic communications engineer, brings over 20 years of expertise in radio frequency spectrum management, telecommunications and broadcasting regulation, policy development, and ICT industry research.
Having joined the NCA in 2004 as a National Service Person, Rev. Ing. Fianko has steadily risen through the ranks.
Most recently, in January 2024, he was appointed Director of the Engineering Division, where he led the planning and management of the radio frequency spectrum for telecom and broadcasting services.
He succeeds Dr. Joe Anokye as Acting Director General, with his appointment reflecting the Authority’s commitment to nurturing and elevating internal talent to leadership positions.
