President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated an eight-member committee to plan the National Education Forum, fulfilling his commitment to advancing Ghana’s education system.
The committee, chaired by Professor George K. T. Oduro, a former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, has been given a two-week deadline to submit its report and a comprehensive plan for the forum.
The committee includes notable education experts and professionals such as Professor Goski Alabi, Professor Rosemary Bosu, Dr. Samuel Awuku, Professor Smile Dzisi, Kofi Asare, Stephen Owusu, and Inusah Shiraz.
Their task is to develop a roadmap for the forum, which will serve as a platform to address pressing issues within Ghana’s education sector.
As part of their mandate, the team will establish a central theme and sub-themes to guide stakeholder discussions, identify and invite key players in the education sector and propose a suitable venue, date, and budget for the event.
The stakeholders expected to participate include students, parents, teachers, researchers, civil society organizations, political parties, religious groups, development partners, chiefs, and members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education.
The committee will also design an activity schedule, set up a secretariat to document proceedings, and draft a national education policy framework based on the forum’s outcomes.
Additionally, an action plan for implementing the recommendations will be prepared within three weeks after the event.
The forum aims to foster dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders to create a unified approach to addressing challenges in Ghana’s education system.
President Mahama has emphasized the importance of this initiative in shaping a more inclusive and forward-looking education framework for the country.
