Mahama accuses gov’t of collapsing business, rendering local firms unprofitable

The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has criticized the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia-led government for collapsing local businesses.

According to him, the situation is due to high taxes and an unfavorable business environment, leading to significant losses and unprofitability.

The former President, who is seeking re-election on December 7, made these remarks as part of his Eastern Regional tour.

“We don’t have more than 1 million public sector workers, and considering the 33 million total population, it means most people are working in the private sector or are self-employed.

“So the best thing for the government to do is create a favorable business environment. But in 8 years since this government took over, most of these businesses have collapsed, while others are barely making profits,” he said.

Mr. Mahama and several NDC stalwarts have been persuading voters to align with their party’s vision as the December polls approach.

John Mahama has been promising to prioritize job creation by creating an enabling environment for private sector-led jobs to thrive.

He bemoaned the growing unemployment rate, attributing it to the ruling government’s bad policies, which have led to the collapse of businesses.

John Mahama assured that a future NDC government will lessen the tax burden on such firms, provide them with incentives to expand, and enable them to absorb the teeming unemployed youth.
