Mahama accuses EC of plot to aid NPP rig elections

With just few hours to the general elections, former President John Dramani Mahama has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of aligning with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to influence the outcome of the polls.

In a strongly worded statement, Mahama alleged that the EC’s actions are part of a calculated effort to rig the elections in favor of the NPP.

He claimed that despite multiple reports from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the exposure of validating stamps since Thursday night, the Commission has failed to issue clear directives to its staff to stop revealing the details of the stamps.

“This exposure gives those with fake ballot papers the opportunity to produce similar stamps, creating an appearance of validity. It is a deliberate scheme to enable ballot stuffing,” Mahama stated.

He referenced an internal memo from the EC dated October 10, 2024, which, according to him, reveals a plot to manipulate the elections by exposing the serial numbers of the validating stamps before voting day.

Mahama called on key stakeholders, including the National Peace Council, religious and traditional leaders, civil society organizations, the international community, and election observer missions, to intervene and hold the EC accountable.

“Ghanaians are determined to vote for change and protect their ballots. No amount of manipulation will succeed,” he emphasized.
