The New Patriotic Party(NPP) Chairman for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Osman Iddrisu is confident the incumbent Member of Parliament, Lydia Seyram Alhassan will retain the seat in the 2024 election.

Mr Iddrisu has vowed the NPP will retire the National Democratic Congress(NDC) Parliamentary Candidate, John Dumelo who is poised to snatch the seat.

In the 2020 election, Lydia Alhassan garnered 39,851 votes Mr Dumelo polled 37,778 of the total votes cast.

However, the NPP Chairman in an interview on Adom FM’s morning Dwaso Nsem Tuesday attributed Mr Dumelo’s victory to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are winning 100% and I’m not even afraid to declare it. Our interest is not to just win but create a huge gap such that John won’t even have the desire to pick nomination forms to contest another election and he will thank God for Covid in 2020.

“He shouldn’t think he has any impact because of the votes he polled,” he said.

The NPP Chairman emphasised that his side will not be complacent but will continue engaging constituents until the election is over and their victory is secured.

“We are actively working and he is comfortably sitting with the hope of using the media to win the election

“The work is on the ground and the people of Ayawaso know we are actively working so we won’t be distracted by any propaganda. Our roads are in good shape and in five years, the MP has built 7 schools aside countless social interventions. So the people know we are working,” he stated.

He further urged the NDC to focus on promoting peace and stop attempts to create chaos, adding the NPP is committed to ensure a peaceful election.

Mr Iddrisu’s remarks follows agitation and concerns raised by Mr Dumelo and his team over alleged voter influence during the Special Voting exercise on Monday, December 2, 2024.
