Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) President, Yaw Acheampong, has shared his thoughts on Ghanaian highlife music, drawing an interesting comparison between two of the genre’s most celebrated artists; Daddy Lumba and Kojo Antwi.
In an interview on Starr FM, Mr Acheampong humorously likened comparing the two musical legends to European football giant Real Madrid and local team Accra Hearts of Oak.
He implied that there’s a significant gap between them.
He noted that while both artists are exceptional in their own right, the comparison is somewhat artificial.
“When it comes to Kojo Antwi, it’s like we’re trying to create a competition where there really isn’t one. It’s like comparing Real Madrid to Hearts of Oak; there’s a gap.”
However, the GBA President pointed out that the conversation becomes more balanced when comparing Daddy Lumba with another highlife legend, Amakye Dede.
Mr Acheampong acknowledged that Amakye Dede might have the edge in terms of stage performance, but when it comes to longevity, he firmly believes Daddy Lumba takes the crown.
The lighthearted exchange showcased Mr Acheampong’s deep appreciation for Ghanaian music and added a fun twist to the interview.
