Lt. Col. E.S. Appiah pulled out as Commander of 66 Artillery Regiment Volta/Oti Barracks

A pullout ceremony was held for Lt. Colonel Edward Sarpong Appiah, Commander of the 66 Artillery Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) for Oti and Volta Barracks.

Outgoing commanding officer who recently returned from a one-year tour of duty in Abyei UNISFA, Sudan, will be succeeded by Lt. Col. Jalal Din Ibrahim, formerly the Commander Rear of the Regiment. Lt. Col.

Lt. Col. Appiah held the commanding position from December 29, 2020, succeeding Col. Bernard Pantoa Baba as the 17th commanding officer of the Regiment.

The pullout ceremony featured military customary rites, including the exchange of the unit flag, the command lanyard, and the baton.

Col. Appiah extended tributes to all who supported his leadership, especially during the era of separatist aggression in the Volta and Oti regions. He assured the people of these regions of the Regiment’s commitment to peace and security.

Brig. Gen. Samuel Yeboah Asare, GOC Southern Command and guest of honour, highlighted the significance of this handover, noting it as the 25th since the Regiment’s establishment in 1966. He praised Lt.

Col. Appiah for his exceptional leadership, noting the acquisition of new weapon systems, improved accommodation, and ensuring regional peace and security.

Lt. Col. Jalal Din Ibrahim, the incoming commander, has an extensive military background, including various appointments and international roles with the United Nations. Born in Accra, he holds degrees from the University of Ghana, GAFCSC, GIMPA, and King’s College London.

He has completed numerous military courses and has served in the 66 Artillery Regiment since his commissioning.

The Volta Regional Coordinating Director, representing the Volta Regional Minister Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, attended the ceremony along with leaders of various regional security commands.
