The Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, has canceled the contracts of some contractors under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP).
Other contractors are at risk of losing their contracts for failing to deliver after receiving payments.
Mr. Adjei Mensah Korsah explained that, the Government of Ghana had taken a loan from the World Bank to develop 35 municipalities under the GSCSP.
However, some contractors have not fulfilled their obligations after receiving the contracts and funds.
In an interview with Adom News, Mr. Mensah Korsah, who recently toured the Western and Central Regions to inspect GSCSP projects, revealed that some contractors intentionally delayed their work and submitted inflated certificates to demand additional funds from the government.
He said his Ministry will not tolerate such behaviour from contractors in the future.
The Local Government Minister warned that, the remaining contractors to complete their projects by October; otherwise, the government will not provide any additional funds.
He commended the contractors working in the Awutu Senya East Municipality (Kasoa) for their good performance.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East, Anita Love Obo Amissah, praised the Minister for the construction of the Kasoa-Jei River Road and other projects.
