Bernard Antwi-Boasiako claimed a ‘supposed’ low turnout was an indication that the agenda of the Inter-Party Resistance Against a New Voters Register, led by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), had failed.

The NDC and other opposition political parties have decided to embark on series of demonstrations until the Electoral Commission (EC) rescinds its decision.

They argue that there is no need for a new electoral roll just few months to the December polls.

The EC insists investing in new technology for the elections will curb fraud and ensure free and fair elections because the current register is not fit for purpose.

On Tuesday, January 21, 2020, the group took the protest to the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi to express its displeasure.

But, the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday said the protesters only engaged in an exercise to keep fit.

He claimed in spite of busing people from across the country, the turnout was not encouraging.

Chairman Wontumi, as he is popularly called, claimed he followed the demonstrations in an Uber and the driver was able to move smoothly among the crowd due to the low turnout.

“I knew people will not go for this demonstration because the NDC has no case. Inconsistency and hypocrisy will kill NDC and John Mahama,” he opined.
