Three teacher unions have declared a nationwide strike action over what they described as legacy of arrears spanning from 2012 to 2016.
The teacher unions namely; Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association Of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) say the strike action is effective Monday December 9, 2019.
The teacher unions at a press conference on Thursday said their move is to demand for their arrears from 2012 to 2016.

The National President of GNAT, Philippa Larsen, said the Controller and Accountant General’s Internal Audit Unit had approved payments three weeks ago.
However, he said the payments had delayed because Ghana Education Service (GES) claimed it had detected some discrepancies.
This position by GES, Mr Larsen noted, had forced them to embark on the strike action.
