Listen: Man who raped pregnant woman put before court

Lukeman Sanche, a 25-year-old accused of raping a seven-month-old pregnant woman, is to be put before court today, Monday, December 16, 2019.

The alleged rape is said to have occurred at Tijo in the Mion district of the Northern region on December 9, 2019 at 3:pm.

Superintendent Kwabena Acheampong of the Northern Regional Police Command, confirming the incident on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem on Monday, said the pregnant woman while leading her animals to feed in a nearby bush was pounced on and raped by the accused.

Following the incident, Musa Briamah, husband of the pregnant woman filed a complaint at the Regional Crime Department in Tamale, on December 11, 2019.

The victim was subsequently issued a medical form for examination at the Tamale Teaching Hospital. 

According to Supt. Acheampong, the arrest of Mr Sanche was effected on Saturday December 14, following the confirmation by a gynecologist at the Tamale Teaching Hospital that the woman had indeed been raped.

He added that the suspect during interrogation confessed to the crime and is currently in the custody of the Northern Regional Police Command and will be put before court today, December 16.Â
