President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has urged Ghanaians to unite and rally behind the Black Stars following recent changes to the team’s technical setup.
His call for support comes after the national team failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, prompting the inclusion of expatriate coaches to strengthen the technical bench.
Among the new additions is German coach Winfried Anton Schäfer, a former AFCON winner with Cameroon in 2002, who has been appointed as the technical advisor. Additionally, Kris Perquy joins as the team’s psychologist, while Gregory De Grauwe takes on the role of senior video analyst.
Following these appointments, Okraku took to social media to make a passionate appeal for unity as the Black Stars turn their attention to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“Let’s give our team our support. With the announcement of both the management committee of the Black Stars and a revamped technical team, it’s now our time to be truly Ghanaian and to get behind our team once again, with that singular ambition of bringing OUR team back to winning ways,” he wrote on social media.
“Ghana, our beloved country, has gone through this challenging period before, but by sticking together, we have always come out stronger.
“In humility, determination, and oneness, we have—and we will—bring smiles back to our people with your support. Let’s support our Black Stars with all our might. Our players need you! Our players need us. It is time!”
Meanwhile, Desmond Ofei, head coach of Ghana’s U-20 team, the Black Satellites, has been promoted to first-team assistant coach, replacing Joseph Laumann.
The Black Stars are set to regroup in March as they resume their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with crucial fixtures against Chad and Madagascar.
