Ukeleke Onwubuya, better known as Ras Kimono has died, a close friend to the musician confirmed to Myjoyonline. Today would have been his 60th birthday.
Onwubuya died in Lagos Sunday. He cancelled a trip to the United States Saturday after falling ill, and was rushed to a local hospital, reports say.

The legendary Nigerian reggae musician is best known for the critically-acclaimed hits “What’s Gwan,” and “Under Pressure.”
Celebrities and public figures are mourning Onwubuya’s death on social media. Heirs Holding chairman Tony Elumelu said the musician impacted his life.

“I just heard the worst news that the Nigerian Reggae legend, and my cousin, #RasKimono has died. Ras had a huge impact on my appreciation of music & is one of the reasons I’m such a huge fan of the genre. I still remember his performance at our #HHchrismas party a two years ago,” he wrote.
