Lawyers seek bail for Adu Boahene and wife

-

Lawyers for the immediate past Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, have filed an application at the Accra High Court seeking bail.

The couple, currently in custody at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), has been accused of diverting GH¢39.46 million meant for a cyber-defence software deal for the state into their private accounts.

Former Abuakwa South MP, Samuel Atta Akyea, who is representing the couple, filed the bail application on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, following an initial police inquiry bail of GH¢120 million for Mr. Boahene.

His wife was also granted bail in the sum of GH¢80 million, both with justification, but they have been unable to meet the conditions.

However, Mr. Atta Akyea has described the bail conditions imposed by the Attorney-General and EOCO as “onerous” and an attempt to keep his clients in detention beyond the 48-hour constitutional limit.

“The respondents, with a clear motive to incarcerate the applicants beyond the 48-hour period as spelt out by the constitution, have imposed burdensome and unreasonable conditions,” the application stated.

The lawyer further alleged that his clients’ right to legal representation had been violated, claiming that EOCO Deputy Executive Director, Raymond Archer, ignored his attempts to engage with authorities on their behalf.

Meanwhile, the High Court is expected to hear the bail application on Friday, March 28, 2025.
