Lawyer sends SoS message to Democracy Hub protestors

-

Private legal practitioner, Bobby Banson, has urged the defence team of arrested Democracy Hub protestors not to appear helpless in its quest to secure bail.

In an interview on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, the Lead Consultant for the Robert Smith Law Group said the lawyers can file an appeal at a higher court.

“The lawyers can repeat the application at the higher court. I have heard them announce such plans and it is in the right direction. There is an opportunity for you to go to the higher court even when charged so the lawyers have the chance.

“There will be a new judge and they may have a fresh look at the application, depending on the evidence and the facts of the case, the judge may decide to grant them bail,” he stated.

The Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday denied a bail request to 39 individuals who were arrested over the weekend during the #ReOccupyJulorbi House and #StopGalamseyNow demonstrations.

Among those brought to court, 28 have been remanded into police custody, while 11 will be in prison custody for two weeks.

All accused persons were charged on counts of conspiracy to commit crime; to wit unlawful assembly, unlawful assembly, causing unlawful damage, offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace, assault on a public officer and defacement of public property.
