Latest update on Job 600 building fire

-

A fire has destroyed items stored in one of the offices used as a storage room, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

The Greater Accra Regional Fire Officer, ACFO 1 Roberta Aggrey Ghanson, stated that her team received a distress call from the House of Legislation and immediately dispatched three fire tenders to fight the blaze.

In their preliminary investigation, the cause of the fire remains unknown.

She noted that, the fire tenders couldn’t reach the location of the fire, as they could not navigate the staircases, forcing officers to climb manually to the area where the fire was.

Job 600, which has about 11 floors, lacks dedicated access points for firefighters aside from staircases and elevators.

This situation left staff, Ministers of State, and Members of Parliament stranded during the incident.

At the time the fire broke out, the Assurances Committee was meeting with Ministers of State and representatives from State Agencies.

The proceedings were halted, and the GNFS has warned that no one should enter the building.

Job 600 houses the offices of Parliamentarians, staff, and conference halls.

Despite the challenges faced during the emergency response, there were no casualties.
