In celebration of International Women’s Day 2025, the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, led by Lady Julia Osei-Tutu, has organized a Mentorship Masterclass in Kumasi.

The program aimed to mentor senior high school girls, inspiring them to accelerate action toward gender equality under the theme, “Together We Can Forge Women’s Equality.”

Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, emphasized the urgency of creating a world where every young woman has the opportunity to thrive, lead, and succeed.

As a speaker at the event, she highlighted that gender should not determine who gets the job done, stating that introducing young girls to their potential and capabilities is a crucial step towards empowerment.

She also highlighted the need to increase female participation in digital entrepreneurship and technology, advocating for inclusive policies that challenge harmful stereotypes and promote gender equality.

Lady Julia’s mentorship program focuses on education, leadership, career development, and social responsibility, equipping the next generation of female leaders with the tools to succeed. The event brought together influential women and queen mothers to inspire and impact young minds.

Associate Professor Mrs. Mercy Badu from KNUST’s Department of Chemistry underscored the importance of STEM education for national development. She acknowledged the high cost of STEM education and called for the provision of essential facilities, even if it starts with basic infrastructure.

She further urged young women not to let marriage hinder their professional aspirations.

“Marriage should not be a barrier to success. If a woman is knowledgeable, she can build both her career and family,” she asserted.

She encouraged successful women in STEM to step forward and mentor young girls, as she strongly believes in targeted support. According to her, this approach will not only inspire young girls but also empower them to make a positive impact on others.

Felicity Obeng Nyarko, a student from Adventist Girls School, expressed deep appreciation for the mentorship session.

She shared how the event boosted her confidence, and she now recognizes her capabilities and the need for courage. She was particularly inspired by Nana Dr. Phillis Tawiah, a guest speaker, stating, “she is bold and motivational. If I look up to her, I know I will be just as courageous and inspiring” she said.

Lady Julia encouraged the young ladies to continue the conversation beyond the event and prove their worth through action.

“The only thing holding us back from reaching our full potential is ourselves. We must be intentional about our actions and put in the necessary work,” she emphasized.

She concluded by reminding the girls that success comes with effort, urging them to stay committed to their growth and aspirations.

The Lady Julia Mentorship Masterclass continues to be a transformative platform, empowering young women to challenge barriers, embrace leadership, and drive meaningful change.
