Mental health Nurse Dora Awuah has spoken out about the growing mental health challenges among youth, attributing many of these issues to a lack of parental care.
Awuah, who works at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has emphasized the crucial role that parents play in safeguarding their children’s mental well-being.
She urged parents to take on full responsibility for their children’s emotional and psychological needs to prevent mental health problems from arising.
The nurse made these remarks during a recent visit to the S.K. Darko Gracious Orphanage Home, formerly known as Eye of the Lord Orphanage Home, located in Nsawam.
The visit was part of the Dora Awuah Foundation’s ongoing efforts to support vulnerable communities.
During the visit, the foundation made a generous donation of items valued at GH₵ 50,000 to support the orphanage’s ongoing work.
While receiving the donation, the orphans and the leader of the S.K. Darko Gracious Orphanage expressed their concerns over the safety of their current location.
Situated far from the town center, they shared their fears about living in an area with limited security.
In response, they made an urgent appeal for support to build a protective fence around the orphanage, which would provide much-needed security for the children in their care.
This heartfelt visit highlighted the importance of both emotional and physical security for vulnerable children and underscored the need for communities to come together to address the challenges faced by orphanages and at-risk youth.
The Dora Awuah Foundation continues to advocate for improved mental health awareness and support for children, recognizing that a safe and nurturing environment is key to their development.
