Assistant coach of Sudan’s national football team, Ignatius Osei Fosu, has lauded Kwesi Appiah, describing him as the best coach to lead Ghana’s Black Stars in the past decade.
Appiah, who last managed the Black Stars in 2019, guided the team to the Round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
However, his tenure ended when the Kurt Okraku-led administration replaced him with Charles Akonnor.
Despite his exit, Appiah’s coaching prowess continues to shine. He recently led Sudan to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, marking the country’s first qualification since 2012.
Highlighting Appiah’s influence, Osei Fosu commended the 66-year-old for his expertise.
“Kwesi Appiah is the best coach in the last 10 years to have handled the Black Stars,” he stated during an interview on MAX TV.
Under Appiah’s guidance, Sudan currently tops Group B in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, amassing 10 points from four games.
The Falcons of Jediane are set to face Senegal and South Sudan in March 2025 as they aim to maintain their strong form.
During his tenure with Ghana, Appiah secured 27 wins in 54 competitive matches, leaving a mixed but impactful legacy in African football.
