Kwawu Apradang chief decries waste challenges from illegal mining activities

The Kontihene of Kwawu Apradang in the Kwawu West Municipality of the Eastern Region, Nana Baffour Nyarko, has expressed grave concerns about the health hazards caused by waste generated from illegal mining activities in the area.

According to Nana Baffour Nyarko, the influx of illegal miners into Kwawu Apradang has resulted in significant waste management problems, negatively impacting the health of community members.

He appealed to the miners to take responsibility and help mitigate the environmental and health challenges their activities have created.

Nana Baffour Nyarko raised these concerns during a community event organized by To My Aid Ghana, a non-governmental organization. The NGO provided free health screenings and assisted residents with the renewal of their health insurance cards.

Speaking at the event, leaders of To My Aid Ghana highlighted the community’s limited access to healthcare as the reason for their intervention. They encouraged residents to prioritize their health and seek medical attention promptly when they notice any unusual changes in their bodies.

The event served as a platform for addressing both health and environmental issues, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to improve living conditions in Kwawu Apradang.
