The Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tamaklo, has urged the swift arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the fire incident at the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools.
In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Tuesday, the legal practitioner described the incident as unfortunate and must be swiftly probed.
He emphasised the need for the prosecution to serve as a deterrent.
“It is very unfortunate. We need to get the perpetrators and let the law deal with them; it is time we serve a deterrent. This is bad and I’m short of words. It is disappointing and terrible,” he bemoaned.
According to him, he cannot fathom what will motivate anybody to carry out such a heinous crime, adding “What is the point?”.
The fire reportedly started around 1:40 a.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
The affected building is the school’s library where ballot boxes and papers were kept for the just-ended 2024 election was on fire.
Even though an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, some residents say they suspect arson.
A resident, Nii Kpakpo Thompson has revealed a polythene bag believed to have contained fuel was found in a house close to the scene.
