Asante Kotoko has announced the return of striker Kwame Opoku on a two-year deal but subject to medical and international transfer clearance.
The 27-year-old striker rejoins the Porcupine Warriors following a memorable stint in the 2020/21 season, where he scored six goals and provided three assists in just 16 appearances.
His impressive performances earned him a deal to join Algerian side, USM Alger and later to Moroccan club Olympique Khouribga.
“It’s a great feeling to be back at Kotoko,” Opoku said to the club’s media.
“This club has always felt like home to me, and I’m eager to contribute to the team’s success. The support from the fans has been incredible, even during my time away, and I’m ready to give everything on the pitch to make them proud.”
Opoku will wear the number 31 jersey as he looks to strengthen Kotoko’s attack.
Head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum also added: “His time in Algeria and Morocco has sharpened his skills and added to his experience. He’s a proven goalscorer and creator, and I’m confident he will bring a lot of quality to our squad.”
Opoku’s return is seen as a key addition to the squad, offering much-needed depth as the team aims to compete for top honours this season and beyond.
Kotoko has struggled with their attacking form this season, scoring just 10 goals in 12 league games.
Their top scorer, Albert Amoah, has netted six goals, and his absence due to injury has affected the team’s performances.
Opoku had been training with the team for several weeks but had to wait for the opening of the second transfer window and the confirmation of his registration as a new player before officially rejoining.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko will be without Kwame Opoku when they host their rivals, Hearts of Oak in the Matchday 13 games at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
