Two women going to church one Sunday morning were ambushed and raped for five hours by nomadic herdsmen popularly known as Fulanis.
The mother and daughter who are members of the Pentecost church in a community in the Kwahu East district of the Eastern region are traumatized after the incident.
The Minister of State in charge of National Security, Bryan Acheampong revealed this while discussing the Fulani menace in the area on Adom FM’s morning show Tuesday.
He explained that the mother and daughter were allegedly chased with a machete, overpowered by these criminal Fulani herdsmen and raped for three and two hours respectively.
Mr. Acheampong who is also the Member of Parliament for Abetifi said the high rape incident and other atrocities visited on natives by the Fulani herdsmen in the area is affecting productivity.
He noted that, productivity is dwindling as a result, with many people giving up the vocation in a predominantly agricultural community.
Women, especially, he said are quitting the occupation because of the Fulani menace.
This notwithstanding, Minister of State in charge of National Security said police re-enforcement has been sent there to support the local security personnel to maintain law and order in the various communities.
Byran Acheampong advised the cattle owners to send their cattle to the fodder Banks in the Afram Plains, to ensure peace in the area.
