A Central Regional chairman hopeful of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ekow Ewusi, has doubled the amount to be given to anyone who will volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of the seven persons who escaped from police cells in Kwabenya.
Last Sunday, seven suspects escaped from police cells after some unidentified gunmen attacked the Atomic Hill Police Station at Kwabenya.
The attack led to the killing of Chief Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi who was shot in process.
The police have since subsequently placed a GHC 15,000 bounty on the heads of the suspects have been identified as Dickson Ofori 24, Chubuzor Akwabu 34, Edem Rockson 32, Emmanuel Kotey 21, Prince Osei 21, Kofi Darko 21 and Atta Kwadwo 20.
Commenting on the attack on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Tuesday, Ekow Awusi said he was alarmed upon hearing the news and hence committed to supporting efforts by the police to re-arrest the runaway suspects.
He gave meaning to his words by issuing a cheque of GHC 15,000 to the producers of the show to be given to the police as a top-up for anyone who may volunteer information for their arrest.
“I am a resident of Kwabenya and I must confess that I was indeed shocked at the news, so I am supporting this effort to arrest the suspects who are on the run. I have thus decided to give the police GHC 15,000 to support them…,” he said.
Ekow Ewusi further sympathized with the widow of the deceased.
“I had to travel but because of what happened at Kwabenya, I have suspended my trip. I want to attend the one-week and sympathise with the widow before I embark on the trip…,” he said.
