Kurt Okraku opens up on future CAF plans after appointment

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, says his sole focus is on delivering in his new role at the Confederation of African Football (CAF), with no immediate aspirations beyond his current appointment.

Okraku was named CAF’s 2nd Vice President by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe during a press conference in Accra over the weekend, ahead of the 2025 African Schools Football Championship final.

Asked whether he harbours ambitions for higher office within CAF, Okraku said he remains committed to the responsibilities before him.

“My hope is to serve the GFA. I stepped down from my position as WAFU B President so I can concentrate more on Ghana and CAF,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

“My intention is to serve and fully utilize the opportunity that I’ve been given. I don’t think about tomorrow,” he added.

Elected unopposed to the CAF Executive Committee in March, Okraku succeeds Ahmed Yahya and joins a restructured leadership team. Morocco’s Faouzi Lekjaa becomes First Vice President, replacing Senegal FA President Augustine Senghor.

Gabon’s Pierre-Alain Mounguengui was appointed 3rd Vice President, bringing a grassroots and diplomatic approach aimed at integrating Central Africa more deeply into continental football.

DR Congo’s Bestine Kazadi Ditabala, named Fourth Vice President, marks a milestone as the first woman in the role—underscoring CAF’s drive toward gender equality.

Mozambique’s Feizal Sidat, now Fifth Vice President, adds deep administrative experience from his time leading the Mozambican Football Federation, ensuring Southern Africa’s interests remain represented.
