Kurt Okraku denies GFA’s interference in player call-ups to national teams

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has dismissed allegations that the FA interferes with player selections to the various national teams.

For years, there have been claims that the GFA leadership influences player call-ups to the various national squads.

However, speaking before Parliament’s Sports Select Committee on Monday, Okraku refuted these allegations, emphasizing that coaches have full control over their team selections.

He cited the example of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, explaining that Addo’s return to the team was partly due to the autonomy he is given in making decisions.

“Coach Otto Addo has had said on platforms that one of the key reasons he accepted to come back is the fact that he is allowed to do the work the way he wants to work,” he said.

“Players representing Ghana are solely selected by the technical team of our national teams — where it’s the Black Queens or the Black Stars,” he added.

Otto Addo is set to announce his squad soon for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where Ghana will face Sudan in a doubleheader.
