Kumasi youth reportedly vandalize Techiman-bound buses at Akyemfour

-

Tensions flared in Kumasi as a group of armed youths reportedly stormed the Akyemfour Bus Terminal yesterday, targeting vehicles loading passengers to Techiman.
The attackers vandalized several buses in what they claimed was retaliation for an incident in Techiman earlier this week.

The altercation stems from Monday’s reported attack in Techiman, where buses escorting the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, from a funeral were allegedly attacked by some Techiman youths.

The irate youth reportedly damaged the windshield of about 8 buses with matchets and clubs, amid threats.

A driver who spoke to Otec FM narrated that a sprinter bus, sienna and another saloon car was damaged in the process.

He added that the bus terminal has become a ghost town as passengers and drivers have fled for their lives.

The retaliatory act has heightened tensions between the two communities, and security agencies are being called upon to intervene and restore calm.

Meanwhile, the police have assured that investigations are underway and the perpetrators will be brought to book.
