Former President, John Agyekum Kufuor, says he would have loved to have a cordial relationship with his predecessor, Jerry John Rawlings, but that desire is proving elusive.
“Personally I would have preferred being friendly with him…I would have preferred to be nice with him but every now and then somehow he burst out saying unfounded things about me and making me feel rather awkward,” former President Kufuor said.
His comments on the Accra-based radio station, Starrfm, Wednesday are in reaction the latest accusations against him Mr Rawlings.
Mr Rawlings recently averred that Mr Kufuor desecrated the memory of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, when he allowed his wife, Fatia Nkrumah, to be buried on the same compound as the first President.
Speaking on Bola Ray on Starfm, Mr Kufour said: “For the sake of our society naturally I would want the relationship to be quite normal…he was the longest serving Head of State, he should be guided by above all himself, he should know what to say and what not to say. I keep an open and I wish he keeps the same, if he really feels there is something Kufuor has done, he rather should approach me to find out.”
