Krodua residents protest against GoldStone Resources in Amansie Central

Residents of Krodua in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region have staged a protest against GoldStone Resources, a mining company operating in the community.

The residents, carrying placards and chanting songs, accused the company of failing to fulfill promises made to them, despite its successful operations.

They blocked one of the main roads leading to the company in a bid to express their frustration.

Some of the inscriptions on their placards read: “Stop polluting our air with chemicals,” “We don’t want Louis,” “If you are not a community member, go away,” “We don’t want John Catela again,” and “Our health is in danger because of chemicals.”

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, some protesters lamented that GoldStone Resources had failed to provide essential amenities, including potable water, schools, and jobs, as promised.

They further claimed that mining activities had polluted water bodies, leading to serious health concerns.

The Krontihene of Krodua, Nana Yaw Forkou, speaking to Adom News’ Isaac K. Normanyo, accused the company of deceit.

“They always deceive us to get what they want but never give back to the community. Instead, their chemicals are polluting our waterbodies, putting our lives at risk,” he said.

The residents are calling on the government to intervene and compel GoldStone Resources to address their concerns and prioritize the well-being of the community.
