Residents of Kpando Torkor and its surrounding communities can finally heave a sigh of relief as the ferry, which had been out of service for three months, is now repaired and back in operation.
The ferry, a vital transportation link across the Volta Lake, had been non-functional, forcing residents to endure challenging and often hazardous travel conditions.
During the downtime, travelers had no option but to use smaller, overcrowded boats, which posed serious safety concerns.
The absence of the ferry also severely disrupted economic activities, especially for traders and farmers who depend on it to transport their goods to markets across the lake.
With the ferry now operational, residents have expressed great relief and satisfaction with the return of a safe and dependable mode of transportation.
However, they are urging authorities to take proactive steps to prevent future disruptions.
Many are advocating for the establishment of a maintenance workshop at Kpando Torkor to facilitate timely repairs whenever the ferry encounters technical issues.
Joshua Amenyogbe, the Assembly member for the Kpando Torkor electoral area, has echoed these concerns, emphasizing the need for a permanent solution to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the ferry.
