Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Ayindoho has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP government of politicizing the Electoral Commission.
According to him, circumstances under which the former Electoral Commissioner Charlotte Osei was removed, and the nomination of IEA Executive Director, Jean Mensa as the new Chairperson of the Commission is questionable.
The NDC Deputy General Secretary stated that the NDC is disappointed with how the President has handled issues surrounding the Electoral Commission.

He said government has succeeded in using all kinds of backdoor tactics to get Charlotte Osei and her two deputies, Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwah out of office, only to nominate Jean Mensa as the new Commissioner.
Mr. Anyidoho who was speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise morning show, said there is no way Jean Mensa can say she is not a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“Already there are question marks hanging around Jean as far as the NDC is concerned,” he stated.
“I feel sorry for her because of the circumstances under which she is getting this appointment makes it impossible for her to walk away from the red, white and blue colors of the NPP,” he added.

“The NPP has pushed Jean Mensa into and NPP rat hole and it will be difficult for her to get out, and she cannot run away from it for as long as it was Nana Addo who appointed her in these very shady, dodgy and …circumstance.”
He noted that there is no way the NPP can convince anyone that they are not playing politics with the Electoral Commission.
According to him, considering the position the NDC took against Jean Mensah some years back, the president should not have appointed her as the new EC boss since there is a call for a neutral person to be appointed as Electoral Commissioner.
