Koforidua Library inaugurates youth advisory board

-

The Koforidua Library Youth Engagement Centre (YEC) has inaugurated the second edition of the Youth Engagement Centre Advisory Board (YECAB) to help coordinate the Centre’s operations.

The Ghana Library Authority, with support from UNICEF, established 10 Youth Engagement Centres across the country in 2022, with the Koforidua Library being one of the beneficiaries.

The Authority has since added eight more centres in 2024 to continue promoting youth-related activities nationwide.

These centres are managed by coordinators with support from a dynamic group of 10 youth between the ages of 14 and 24.

These selected youth serve a one-year term, during which they provide support to the Centre and set the tone for activities for other youth in the community.

The Youth Engagement Centre Advisory Board is a body of young people from diverse backgrounds and with diverse opinions who have been constituted to deliberate on matters in their communities, recommend solutions, vocalize the needs of the youth, and serve as ambassadors for young people.

During the inauguration, Mr. Evans Korletey-Tene, the Eastern Regional Director of the Ghana Library Authority, stated that the youth have a key role to play in setting the agenda for national development.

He further assured the young board members of the Authority’s resolve to support them through initiatives and projects, as they are the surest bet in mapping solutions for youth-related issues.

The new members of the Advisory Board include Ms. Emmanuella Amoako Kwatia, Mr. Godwin Ansah, Ms. Woyram Ametefe, Mr. Robert Mawuko, Ms. Immaculate Lokko, Mr. Nicholas Boateng, Ms. Jemima Datsa, Mr. Vans Tormekpey, Mr. Christian Anim, and Ms. Betty Agyei.

The Youth Engagement Centre

The Youth Engagement Centre is a physical space located in a strategic area where young people can meet, participate, and access a range of programs, services, projects, and activities tailored to young adults.

The Centre is also designed to help build a community of young people where they can organize their schedules, share ideas and hobbies, and work on projects together.

The YEC project has a primary goal of supporting bottom-up initiatives by young people, helping them implement their ideas and fulfill their passions.
